What We Like

  • Arms-up position is more natural for babies who like to self-soothe by touching their face
  • Perfect for babies who fight and bust out of traditional arms-down swaddles
  • Zipper closure is quieter than velcro for dark-room changes
  • Transition version available with detachable arm wings for gradual weaning

What Could Be Better

  • More expensive than basic velcro swaddles like SwaddleMe
  • The wing shape means baby takes up slightly more space in a bassinet
  • Sizing can be tricky, too loose and it doesn't contain the startle reflex

Safety Notes

Stop using when baby shows signs of rolling. Always place baby on their back. The swaddle should be snug in the body but arms should move freely within the wings. Follow the sizing chart by weight for proper fit.

Buying Guide Notes

Try this if your baby fights the SwaddleMe or other arms-down swaddles. It's a different philosophy and some babies strongly prefer one over the other. Get the Stage 1 for newborns, then the Stage 2 Transition Bag with removable arm sections when it's time to wean. Buy at least 2 for laundry rotation.

Full Review

Some babies hate having their arms pinned at their sides. They fight the swaddle, bust out of it, and then wake themselves up with the startle reflex anyway. It's a lose-lose situation. The Love to Dream Swaddle Up approaches swaddling differently. Baby's arms stay in a natural "hands up" position near their face, contained in the wing shape of the swaddle but not restrained flat against their body. This lets babies who like to self-soothe by touching their face still do that while getting the snug containment that prevents startles. Our daughter was a classic swaddle fighter. She'd bust out of the SwaddleMe in under 5 minutes, every single time. The Swaddle Up? She slept 4-hour stretches from the first night. The zip-up design is easier than velcro (no noise in the dark room). They make a transition version with detachable arm wings, so you can wean one arm at a time when it's time to stop swaddling. At around $25, it's pricier than basic swaddles but worth it if your baby fights the arms-down position.
