What We Like
- Merino wool naturally regulates temperature across a 60-77 degree range
- One-size design fits from 2 to 24 months, so you buy it once
- Eliminates the need for multiple TOG-weight sleep bags for different seasons
- Machine washable, despite being merino wool
- Moisture-wicking fabric keeps baby dry and comfortable all night
What Could Be Better
- The upfront cost is genuinely steep at $80-100 per bag
- Takes longer to air dry than cotton or synthetic sleep bags
- Only one size means it's quite large on a 2-month-old initially
Safety Notes
Merino wool is naturally flame-resistant without chemical treatments. Use the appropriate snap settings for baby's size to prevent the bag from going over baby's face. Always place baby on their back. Stop using once baby can climb out of the crib.
Buying Guide Notes
Buy two so you have a backup during laundry. The math works: two Woolinos at $180 total replaces 4-6 different TOG sleep bags over 2 years, which would cost about the same. If the price is a dealbreaker, Kyte Baby is the best cotton/bamboo alternative at about half the cost but you'll need summer and winter versions. Woolino also makes a swaddle version for newborns.
Full Review
Most sleep bags come in specific TOG ratings. You buy a thin one for summer and a thick one for winter and swap between them. Woolino's trick is using merino wool, which naturally regulates temperature across a wide range (60-77 degrees). One sleep bag, all year. We were skeptical because that sounds too good to be true, but the science on merino wool and temperature regulation is legit. Our daughter wore hers from 3 months to almost 2 years (it's one-size from 2-24 months), through a Virginia summer and a Virginia winter, and she slept comfortably in both. The merino wool wicks moisture and breathes better than cotton or polyester. It's machine washable, which is critical because it doesn't need to be, like, dry cleaned or anything fancy. Yeah, it's expensive. Really expensive. At $80-100 for one sleep bag, it's 2-3x the price of Kyte Baby or Burt's Bees options. But you only need one or two instead of four different TOG weights, and the one-size feature means you're not rebuying every few months as baby grows. Over time, the math actually works out close to even.
