Buying Guide Notes
This is the premium crib mattress option. If it's outside your budget, the Graco Premium Foam mattress is a solid standard option for under $60. Naturepedic makes an organic alternative at a similar price to Newton. The breathability feature is the Newton's unique selling point. No other major crib mattress offers a fully breathable core.
Full Review
Every new parent lies in bed at night worrying about their baby breathing face-down on the mattress. The Newton mattress addresses this fear head-on. Instead of foam, it's made from a washable food-grade polymer called Wovenaire that's 90% air. You can literally breathe through it. We held it up to our face and breathed through it, and yeah, air flows right through. Does this mean you can skip safe sleep guidelines? Absolutely not. Baby should always go on their back. But knowing the mattress itself is breathable provides real peace of mind on those nights when your baby decides to become a tummy sleeper before you're ready. It's also 100% washable. The cover and the core. You can hose down the entire mattress in the shower and it dries in hours. Try doing that with a foam mattress that absorbed a diaper blowout. The firmness is appropriate for infants and it meets all the safety standards. It's expensive. There's no getting around that. But we slept better knowing our baby was on it, and isn't that worth something?
