What We Like
- Completely hidden inside the cabinet, no ugly latches on your kitchen
- Magnetic key system is easy for adults, impossible for babies
- One-hand operation with the key while holding baby on the other hip
- 8-pack covers the critical cabinets in most kitchens
- Durable enough to survive multiple kids over several years
What Could Be Better
- Requires drilling into cabinet doors, which isn't great for renters
- If you lose the magnetic key, you're locked out of your own cabinets
- Installation takes longer than adhesive locks (about 10 min per lock)
Safety Notes
Install on all cabinets containing cleaning supplies, chemicals, sharp objects, and medications. Keep the magnetic key out of children's reach. Test each lock after installation to confirm it latches securely. Not a substitute for moving truly dangerous chemicals to high storage.
Buying Guide Notes
Buy the 8-pack plus an extra magnetic key (keep one upstairs, one down). If you're renting and can't drill, adhesive-mount locks from Jool Baby work but don't hold up as well against persistent toddlers. Focus on kitchen and bathroom cabinets first, then add more as your crawler discovers new territory.
Full Review
The day your baby starts crawling is the day you realize everything under every cabinet is now a toy. Cleaning supplies, sharp utensils, that random collection of plastic bags, all suddenly accessible to tiny determined hands. These magnetic cabinet locks install inside the cabinet so you can't see them from the outside. No ugly plastic latches screwed to the front of your nice cabinets. You hold the magnetic key to the outside of the door and it releases the lock. It takes about 10 minutes per lock to install with a drill, and the 8-pack covers all the critical cabinets in most kitchens. We did ours in an afternoon and they've held up through two kids. The magnetic key is strong enough that kids can't accidentally open them, but easy enough for adults to use one-handed while holding a baby on the hip. Keep the key on a hook out of reach. Our toddler figured out what it does at about 18 months.
