What We Like

  • Three-step system actually works, visible improvement after first use
  • Silicone bristles are soft enough for newborn scalps
  • Plant-based oil is gentle and doesn't irritate sensitive skin
  • The brush doubles as a bath-time scalp massager babies love
  • Way better than the DIY olive oil and toothbrush method

What Could Be Better

  • You'll need multiple treatments for stubborn cradle cap, not a one-and-done fix
  • The oil bottle is small and runs out fast if your baby has a lot of cradle cap
  • A bit pricey for what is basically oil, a brush, and a sponge

Safety Notes

For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Test oil on a small patch of skin first. Use gentle pressure with the brush, no need to scrub hard. If cradle cap doesn't improve after several weeks or spreads beyond the scalp, consult your pediatrician.

Buying Guide Notes

Use this 2-3 times per week until the cradle cap clears, then the brush alone for maintenance during regular baths. If you want to save money, coconut oil and a silicone brush from Amazon will do about 80% of the same job. But the kit is convenient and the oil is specifically formulated for baby scalps. Keep the brush around after cradle cap resolves because babies love the scalp massage.

Full Review

Cradle cap is one of those things nobody tells you about before you have a baby. You'll wake up one day and your newborn's head is covered in yellow, flaky, crusty patches. It's harmless but it looks terrible and it bothers you way more than it bothers your baby. The Frida Baby DermaFrida system actually works, which puts it ahead of the "just use olive oil and a toothbrush" advice your mother-in-law will give you. Step 1: apply the plant-based pre-bath oil to loosen the flakes. Step 2: use the silicone brush (which has super soft bristles that won't irritate baby's scalp) in gentle circular motions. Step 3: rinse with the sponge. We saw noticeable improvement after the first use and the cradle cap was basically gone after 3-4 baths. The brush also works great as an ongoing scalp massager during regular baths, and our baby actually seemed to enjoy it.
