Not every parent needs a video monitor with night vision, temperature sensors, and an app that sends notifications. Some of us just want to hear if the baby is crying. The VTech DM221 does exactly that and does it reliably. DECT 6.0 technology means it won't interfere with your Wi-Fi and can't be accessed over the internet (so no creepy monitor hacking stories). The range is solid at up to 1,000 feet, which covers most houses and backyards. It has a sound-activated LED display on the parent unit so you can see audio levels when the volume is off. The rechargeable parent unit lasts about 18 hours on a charge. We've used ours for two kids and it still works perfectly. There's a two-way talk-back feature that we honestly never used, but it's there. Sometimes simple is better, and at under $30, this is the best value in baby monitors.
