What We Like

  • 32 finger holes let even newborns grip and hold a ball for the first time
  • Flexible, soft material that's safe for throwing, chewing, and bouncing
  • Lightweight and portable for diaper bags, car seats, and strollers
  • No batteries, no sounds, just smart design for developing motor skills
  • Under $6 makes it easy to buy multiples for car, home, and grandparents

What Could Be Better

  • The weave crevices collect drool and are tricky to clean thoroughly
  • It's a simple ball, so it doesn't hold attention as long as more complex toys
  • Colors can fade over time with heavy use and UV exposure

Safety Notes

BPA-free, phthalate-free, PVC-free. No small parts. Flexible material won't break into sharp pieces. Safe from birth. Wash with warm soapy water and a brush to clean between the weave.

Buying Guide Notes

Buy 2-3 so you always have one nearby. They're cheap enough to scatter around. The Oball Rattle version adds a rattle sound inside for younger babies. Pair with the Sassy Bumpy Ball for variety in textures. The Oball is the best first ball and belongs in every baby's toy collection from birth.

Full Review

Regular balls roll away from babies. The Oball doesn't. Its open, flexible design has 32 finger holes that let even tiny newborn hands grab and hold on. That sounds like a small thing, but it's huge when you're watching your 3-month-old try to hold a smooth ball and fail over and over. The Oball is the first ball they can actually catch and keep. It's made from a flexible, BPA-free plastic that bounces softly, won't hurt anyone or anything when thrown (and it will be thrown), and collapses under pressure so it's safe for chewing. By about 4 months, our daughter could grab it independently. By 6 months, she was passing it hand to hand. By 9 months, she was throwing it and chasing it. It's also weirdly useful as a car seat toy because you can loop a link through the holes and clip it to the car seat handle. No batteries, no sounds, just a simple, brilliant design. They cost about $5-6 and they're sold at every Target and Walmart. We have three scattered around the house and car. The only issue is they're hard to clean in the crevices where the weave meets, and baby drool collects there. A bottle brush helps.
