What We Like

  • Aluminum frame is light enough that pedaling with two kids is actually doable
  • Tinted UV windows protect kids from sun without blocking their view
  • 5-point harness in each seat keeps kids safe on bumpy trails
  • Folds compactly for garage storage between rides
  • Rear visibility flag included, which is essential for road safety

What Could Be Better

  • Rain cover sold separately, which feels like it should be included at this price
  • Not recommended for kids under 12 months due to head and neck support needs
  • The interior gets hot on summer days, so bring water for the kids

Safety Notes

Not recommended for children under 12 months who can't support their head and neck independently. Always use the 5-point harness. Attach the visibility flag before every ride. Check the hitch connection before riding. Avoid riding on roads with heavy traffic when possible. Helmet use is recommended even inside the trailer.

Buying Guide Notes

The Burley Bee is the best value bike trailer. The Burley D'Lite is their premium option with better suspension and more features for about $200 more. The Thule Chariot is the luxury pick. If you only need a single-seat trailer, the Burley Solo saves some money and width. Don't skip the rain cover if you live somewhere wet. And wait to use this until your child can sit up independently and hold their head steady, usually around 12 months.

Full Review

Getting back on a bike after having kids feels great, and the Burley Bee is how we made it happen. It attaches to your rear axle with a simple hitch and tows behind your bike with enough room for two kids up to 100 lbs combined. The setup takes about 20 minutes the first time, and after that you can attach and detach it in under a minute. The aluminum frame keeps it light enough that you actually feel like pedaling is possible, even with two kids and a bag of snacks back there. The tinted UV windows protect kids from sun while still letting them see out. The rear visibility flag is a must for road safety, and we're glad Burley includes it instead of selling it separately. The 5-point harness in each seat keeps kids secure on bumpy paths. The fold is compact enough to fit in a garage corner when you're not using it. It also works as a stroller with the optional stroller kit, but we mostly use it for biking. The floor is easy to wipe down after muddy shoes and spilled snacks. Our only complaint is that it doesn't come with a rain cover, so you'll need to budget an extra $40 for that if you ride in wet weather.
