This little caterpillar music player has been a bestselling baby toy for years, and it's because it just works. It's small enough for baby to hold, plays 7 classical melodies (Mozart, mostly), has a volume control (bless whoever decided to include that), and a light-up caterpillar that changes colors with the music. The large button on top is easy for babies to push from about 5-6 months old, which teaches them cause and effect early. We kept one in the diaper bag at all times. Restaurant meltdown? Take Along Tunes. Grocery store cart breakdown? Take Along Tunes. Car seat screaming? Take Along Tunes. It saved us in public more times than we can count. The sound quality isn't going to win any audio awards. It's tinny and the melodies are simplified versions of the originals. But babies don't care about audio fidelity.
