What We Like
- Fit standard cube shelving like IKEA Kallax perfectly
- Hold their shape even when empty, unlike cheaper fabric bins
- Reinforced handles that don't rip when you pull them one-handed
- Nursery-friendly colors that look good without being too plain
- Affordable enough to buy multiple sets for different rooms
What Could Be Better
- Not waterproof, so wet items will soak through the fabric
- Limited pattern selection compared to some pricier brands
Safety Notes
Keep bins out of the crib. When used on shelving, make sure the shelving unit is anchored to the wall to prevent tip-overs. Don't let young children climb on shelving to reach bins on higher shelves.
Buying Guide Notes
These are the best value nursery bins. If you want a more premium look, the Pottery Barn Kids bins are nicer but cost 3-4x as much. The IKEA DRONA bins are also fine but lack reinforced handles. Get the cube shelving first, then buy bins that fit it. And anchor the shelf to the wall. Toddlers climb everything.
Full Review
Storage bins don't sound exciting, but when you're trying to organize a nursery full of tiny socks, pacifiers, burp cloths, and the growing pile of teething toys, you need something that works. These Cloud Island bins fit perfectly into cube shelving units like the IKEA Kallax (which is basically the unofficial nursery shelf). They hold their shape even when empty, which sounds minor but cheaper fabric bins flop over and look sad after a week. The handles are reinforced so they don't rip when you're pulling them off the shelf one-handed while holding a baby in the other arm. The colors are muted and nursery-appropriate without being so plain they're boring. They're light enough that a toddler can pull them off the shelf and dump them out (which they will, constantly), and durable enough that you won't care when they do. Each bin holds a surprising amount. We fit 20+ onesies folded in one, all our burp cloths in another, and sleep sacks and swaddles in the third. The fabric is wipe-clean on the outside, and you can hand wash them if they get really dirty. For the price of a set, they're one of the cheapest nursery upgrades that actually make your life easier. You'll probably want two or three sets.
