4-5 Years

Preschooler (4-5 years)

Four and five is the run-up to school, and it shows. They want rules, they want to know why the rules exist, and they want to be the one who explains them to everybody else. Attention spans stretch far enough for a real board game. Independence is the theme, which is wonderful right up until you're late and they insist on doing the buttons themselves.

Key Developmental Milestones

Following multi-step rules in a game
Recognising letters and their own name
Managing transitions with warning
Using scissors and drawing with control
Playing independently for longer stretches
Talking through a problem instead of only reacting
