Our Full Review

Night lights for babies need to do two things: give you enough light to check on the baby or do a nighttime feed without turning on the overhead light, and not be so bright that it wakes the baby up. The VAVA nail both of these. The warm white mode is perfect for nighttime feeds. It's bright enough to see what you're doing but dim enough that baby stays drowsy. You can adjust the brightness with a simple tap on the top, and hold it to cycle through levels. The cool white mode works for diaper changes when you need a bit more light. The fact that it's rechargeable and cordless is the key feature. No cord for baby to grab, no cord to trip over during 3am stumbles to the nursery. You charge it via USB, and a full charge lasts about 200 hours on the lowest setting. We charge ours about once a month. The outer shell is soft silicone that's safe if your toddler grabs it and throws it (because they will). It stays cool to the touch no matter how long it's on. The magnetic charging base is easy to use even when you're half asleep. It's small enough to fit on a nightstand, shelf, or even carry to the bathroom for middle-of-the-night trips. For under $20, it's one of those purchases that feels like stealing.

What We Like

  • Rechargeable and cordless so there's no cord for baby to grab or for you to trip over
  • Battery lasts up to 200 hours on low, you'll charge it about once a month
  • Soft silicone shell is safe for kids and stays cool to the touch
  • Adjustable brightness works for everything from nighttime feeds to diaper changes
  • Under $20 for a night light this good is genuinely hard to beat

What Could Be Better

  • No color-changing options, it's just warm white and cool white
  • The tap-to-adjust controls take a couple nights to get used to in the dark

Safety Notes

The VAVA night light is cool to the touch and safe for children to handle. The silicone shell is BPA-free and non-toxic. No small parts or choking hazards. The USB charging port should be kept away from water. Charge on a stable surface away from bedding.

Buying Guide Notes

If you want more features (color changing, app control, OK-to-wake), get the Hatch Rest instead, but it costs 2-3x more. If you want the simplest possible night light with no frills, the VAVA is perfect. The LumiPets are cute animal-shaped alternatives if you want something your toddler will think of as a toy. We keep a VAVA in the nursery and one in the hallway. At this price, buy two.
