The appeal of contact-free monitoring is obvious: you get movement and sleep data without strapping a sensor to a newborn's foot or chest. The BM08 watches from the camera and reports what it sees. Treat what it tells you as interesting rather than authoritative. No consumer monitor detects or prevents SIDS, no matter how the category is marketed, and the studies on consumer infant monitors have found meaningful rates of false alarms and missed events. That's not an argument against owning one. It's an argument for not letting it replace safe sleep practice, and for not letting an alert at 4am send you into a panic before you've looked at your baby.

Safety Notes
This is not a medical device. It does not detect or prevent SIDS, and no consumer baby monitor does. Never let monitor data substitute for safe sleep: alone, on the back, on a firm flat surface, in a cot clear of everything else. Keep the camera and cables at least three feet from the cot. If you are worried about your baby's breathing, look at your baby and call a doctor rather than checking an app.
