Our Full Review
The useful thing about pose cards is that they take the pressure off you. Each card shows an illustrated pose on the front and plain instructions on the back, so you don't need to know anything about yoga to run ten minutes of it before bath time. Kids like being the one who picks the next card, which quietly solves the motivation problem. Physically it's a deck of cards, so the value is entirely in the illustration quality and whether the instructions are actually followable. These are good on both counts. At $39.99 for cards you are paying a design premium, and free pose lists exist online. What you're buying is the thing your child can hold and choose from, which turns out to matter more than it sounds.
What We Like
- You don't need to know yoga to use them, which is the actual barrier for most parents
- Letting them pick the card does most of the motivating for you
- Good for burning energy indoors when going outside isn't happening
- Packs flat, so they travel
What Could Be Better
- $40 for a deck of cards is steep, and free pose guides exist
- Cards get bent and lost, and a set with gaps is less appealing
Safety Notes
Use on a soft surface with room to fall. Let children stop whenever they want and never push a pose further than they take it themselves.
Buying Guide Notes
Pair these with the kids yoga mat only if your child takes to the cards first. The cards alone work on a rug, and they're the cheaper way to find out whether this is a thing your child enjoys.
