Our Full Review
A child-sized mat does two things a folded towel doesn't. It grips, so small feet don't slide out of a pose, and it marks out a space that belongs to them, which is a surprisingly large part of why kids take the activity seriously. This one is 100% recycled tree rubber with a microfiber suede surface, so it's soft underfoot and cushioned enough for knees. The illustrations are lovely and the whole thing is nicer than it strictly needs to be. It's $70, which is real money for a mat, and an adult mat costs less and works fine if you don't mind the size. Buy this if the yoga has already stuck and you want to give it a proper home, not as the thing that starts it.
What We Like
- Actual grip, so they aren't sliding around mid-pose
- Child-sized, which makes the space feel like theirs
- Recycled tree rubber and a genuinely nice print
What Could Be Better
- $70 is a lot, and a cheap adult mat does the basic job
- Suede-topped mats mark and need care, so it isn't a rough-and-tumble item
Safety Notes
Use on a flat, dry floor. A damp suede surface gets slippery, so let it dry fully after cleaning. Roll and store it away rather than leaving it as a trip hazard.
Buying Guide Notes
Start with the yoga flash cards on a rug. If your child asks for it again a week later, then the mat is worth buying. Buying the mat first is how it ends up under the bed.
