Our Full Review

Here's a scary one. Our neighbor's 2-year-old turned on a gas stove burner while nobody was in the kitchen. Nothing caught fire, thankfully, but the house filled with gas before anyone noticed. That story is what made us buy stove knob covers the very next day. These Jool Baby covers are clear plastic shells that snap over your stove's front-mounted knobs. To turn the knob, you have to lift the cover first, which requires a pinch-and-lift motion that toddlers can't manage. Adults can operate them without much hassle once you get the hang of it. The 5-pack covers a standard 4-burner stove plus one extra in case a cover breaks or you have a 5th knob. They fit most standard round stove knobs, but check your measurements because some brands have oversized or oddly shaped knobs that won't fit. They're clear plastic so they don't look terrible on your stove. Are they a little annoying to deal with every time you cook? Yeah, a little. But compare that to the alternative and it's an easy trade-off. If your stove has front-mounted knobs and you have a mobile baby or toddler in the house, these are not optional. They're the kind of thing you need before you need them, because by the time you realize there's a problem, it's already an emergency.

What We Like

  • Prevents toddlers from turning on stove burners, which is a genuine safety hazard
  • Clear plastic is relatively unobtrusive on most stoves
  • Pinch-and-lift mechanism is easy for adults once you're used to it
  • 5-pack covers standard 4-burner stoves with a spare

What Could Be Better

  • Adds an extra step every single time you want to cook
  • Don't fit all knob shapes, especially oversized or flat-profile knobs
  • Plastic can yellow over time from stove heat exposure

Safety Notes

These are critical if your stove has front-mounted knobs accessible to children. Gas stoves are especially dangerous since a turned knob releases unlit gas. Check that covers fit securely after installation. Replace if plastic becomes cracked or brittle from heat exposure. Not needed for stoves with rear-mounted or recessed knobs that children can't reach.

Buying Guide Notes

Measure your stove knobs before ordering. Standard round knobs fit, but some high-end ranges have non-standard sizes. If your stove has rear-mounted knobs that are already out of reach, you can skip these. For slide-in ranges with front-mounted knobs, these are a must-buy. Some parents prefer the Safety 1st version, but the Jool Baby covers are clearer and less bulky. Buy an extra pack if your knobs are the type that get yanked on hard by toddlers.
