Our Full Review

The Hatch Rest is one of those products where spending more actually makes sense. We went through two cheap sound machines that either died, had annoying orange LEDs we couldn't turn off, or required physically walking into the nursery to change settings (inevitably stepping on the creaky floorboard and waking the baby). The Hatch solves all of this. You control everything from your phone: sound, volume, light color, light brightness, and you can set schedules. The time-to-rise feature is a lifesaver once you have a toddler, because a green light means "you can get up" and a red light means "it's still nighttime, go back to sleep." It won't stop a determined 2-year-old, but it gives them a visual cue that actually works most mornings. The white noise quality is good, the night light has enough color options to satisfy any nursery theme, and it's small enough to travel with. We're on year three with ours.

What We Like

  • Phone control means no sneaking into the nursery to adjust settings
  • Time-to-rise color feature genuinely helps toddlers understand morning vs. night
  • Combines sound machine and night light so you don't need two devices
  • Programmable schedules for naps, bedtime, and wake-up
  • Compact and travel-friendly with a solid library of sounds

What Could Be Better

  • Requires the Hatch app and a Bluetooth connection, which occasionally glitches
  • Some premium sound options require a paid subscription (the free ones are fine though)
  • The speaker isn't as loud as dedicated sound machines like the Dohm

Safety Notes

Keep the power cord out of baby's reach, at least 3 feet from the crib. Place on a stable surface. The night light is cool to the touch and safe around children. UL certified.

Buying Guide Notes

The Hatch Rest is the best value. The Hatch Rest+ adds Wi-Fi (so it works away from home) and a battery backup but costs $20 more. The Yogasleep Dohm is better if you only want white noise and don't care about the light or app control. The Hatch grows with your kid from newborn sound machine to toddler OK-to-wake clock, which is rare.
