Our Full Review
We've taken the Guava Lotus on eight trips now, including two flights, and it's the best travel crib we've used. At 15 lbs, it's light enough to check as luggage or carry as a backpack through the airport. And yes, it actually fits into a backpack carry bag. Setup takes about 15 seconds once you've done it a couple times. You just unfold, push down the sides, and it pops into shape. The side door is the feature that sold us. It zips open so you can reach in and pat your baby's back during the night without standing up and reaching over the top rail. Or when your toddler wakes up, they can crawl out through the door instead of screaming for you to lift them. The mattress pad that comes with it is thin (as all travel crib pads are), but it's GreenGuard Gold certified and comfortable enough for short trips. For longer stays, you can buy their upgraded mattress. The mesh sides provide airflow and let you see your baby from anywhere in the room. It meets all safety standards for full-time sleep, so it works as a primary crib if you're in a small space too. Our only real complaint is that the fabric on the bottom shows wear after heavy use, but it's held up structurally.
What We Like
- Weighs only 15 lbs and folds into a backpack for travel
- Side door lets you access baby without reaching over the top rail
- Sets up in about 15 seconds once you know the trick
- Certified for full-time sleep, not just naps, so it doubles as a primary crib
- Mesh sides provide great airflow and visibility from across the room
What Could Be Better
- The included mattress pad is thin, you'll probably want the upgraded version for longer trips
- The bottom fabric shows wear over time with heavy use
- It's pricier than the Pack 'n Play, which is the go-to budget travel crib
Safety Notes
Meets CPSC and ASTM standards for full-size cribs. Use only the Guava mattress that fits this crib. Never add extra padding or blankets. The side door must be fully zipped closed during sleep. GreenGuard Gold certified for low chemical emissions.
Buying Guide Notes
If you travel more than twice a year, the Lotus pays for itself in convenience versus lugging a Pack 'n Play. The BabyBjorn Travel Crib Light is the main competitor at a similar price but doesn't have the side door. For a budget option, the Graco Pack 'n Play Anywhere Dreamer is about $80 but weighs twice as much. Get the Lotus if portability is your top priority.
